  • What is a felted fleece rug?

A felted fleece rug is made from a whole sheep fleece that has been carefully washed and felted so the natural wool fibres bind together. This traditional process creates a soft, durable rug while preserving the fleece’s beautiful curls and texture. Because each fleece is different, every felted fleece rug is completely unique and full of natural character.

  • Are felted rug a cruelty free product?

Yes. Felted fleece rugs are made using wool that is shorn from sheep as part of their normal care. Sheep naturally grow a thick fleece each year, and regular shearing is important for their health and wellbeing.

The wool used in our rugs comes from a mixture of fibre flocks, small farms and well-cared-for pet sheep. Shearing does not harm the sheep and helps keep them comfortable, particularly during the warmer months.

Wool is also a renewable and biodegradable natural fibre, making felted fleece rugs a sustainable and environmentally friendly choice for the home.

  • How is a felted fleece rug made?

Using an old tradition of wet felting which involves hot water, soap and lots of hard work I make a new backing out of felt. We do not use any wool to make the backing of the rug from Merino sheep which are sometimes involved in cruel practices of husbandry overseas.

  • Who makes the rugs?

Most of the rugs are made by us but we do like to support other wool artists so we have some made by them as well. Details in the description of the rug.

  • Where do you get your fleeces from?

I strive to ethically source the fleeces I use for my rugs, primarily obtaining them from pet sheep and a select number of sheep sanctuaries located in the UK. Additionally, I acquire some fleeces from friends and acquaintances, all of which originate from farms practicing high standards of animal welfare.

I take pride in ensuring the traceability of the materials used in my rugs. In many instances, I can provide you with detailed information about the specific source of the fleece, offering full transparency in the production process.

For those with vegetarian or plant-based preferences, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'm more than happy to assist you in finding the most suitable rug that aligns with your ethical choices and requirements.

  • How do you care for a felted fleece rug?

See our felted fleece rug care guide for more details...

  • Do these type of rugs moult?

You do sometimes get a certain breed of sheep that can moult more than others. Please read the description of the rugs before you buy.

  • Why is there a price difference between the felted fleece rugs?

Rugs are priced on size, fleece (how rare and the condition of the fleece) and how much time it has taken to make/clean as well.

  • What is your shipping time?

We normally ship next day via Royal Mail/Parcel Force with fully tracking details.

  • Do you take back returns?

Sorry we only take back items which are faultly (within 7 days of purchase) or have been damaged in shipping.

  • How do you join the Collective?
